Other Faiths

As part of Religious Education, it is important for children to have an awareness, an understanding of and develop a mutual respect for people of another faith. During the week of 16th October 2017, each class had the opportunity to study Judaism. As part of this week, a Jewish man, Jon Leigh, was invited in to share his knowledge and faith with the whole school. The week started off with an assembly for the children, with a focus on The Torah for Key Stage One and a focus on Jewish Worship for Key Stage Two, looking at Hannukah.

In the assemblies, Jon gave the children a special blessing, one for the boys and one for the girls. In the Jewish faith, children are deemed as the most important people. Each Friday evening, the children in each family are given a blessing.

For boys: May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.

For girls: May God make you like Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah.

For both boys and girls as a joint blessing: May God bless you and keep you. May God's face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May God's face turn towards you and give you peace.

The children also learnt a song about the Star of David, which is a symbol of the Jewish Faith.

Please see the photographs in the slideshow below, which highlights some of the experiences the children had during Other Faiths Week.
